Background Summary:
On January 9, 2017, a Council ad hoc committee was created to review the annual Deputy Mayor selection process, to clarify the process and to ensure that it conforms to statutory terms.
 
The ad hoc committee, consisting of Councilmembers Trout-Manuel and Peloza and chaired by Councilmember DaCorsi, met over the past several months and discussed alternative procedures.  The committee presented proposals and recommendations at Council study sessions on May 22, June 12, July 10, and July 24, 2017.
